Countdown to Elijah - The Last Night
I learnt that our "Elijah" is by the name of Nathan Berg. And everybody (except the chorus XD) is trying to conserve their voices for the big event tomorrow.Tonight's rehearsal is even more demanding than yesterday's. All the chorus members were so exhausted at the end of it, mostly from the long periods of standing up and holding the score with good posture. Gosh, I'm now re-considering if I should wear high heels for tomorrow's performance. Jokes were expectedly cracked to liven up the atmosphere, but we were engaging in a lot more of music-making today. We only managed Part One and very little of Part Two last night, so today Herr Nelson made sure we rehearsed though Part Two thoroughly. It was soon followed by a break, but Herr Nelson made use of this period of time to work with the trio (who is singing the Lift Thine Eyes number). Hence many of us decided to stay on stage to watch them rehearse. It's quite difficult really. Sang a cappella (sheesh, don't point a finger at me for spelling that word wrongly; I'm really very exhausted now), and scored for Soprano I (the "Widow"), Soprano II (a countertenor!) and Alto solo (the "Queen"). I'm awed by the fact that I get to hear a countertenor sing live in front of me! The only other countertenor I ever heard in my life is Andreas Scholl. Haha, that tells you I have very limited knowledge on singers.
I'm writing (or typing) this on my bed now; my tired feet are refusing to go in contact with the floor anymore - they are simply aching. Arrrgh... However I gave my best today, and my voice is obedient as well! Perhaps it was a wise choice that I sang through Elijah before leaving the house this evening. No cracking of voice, just full-bodied sound. Yay!
Another confession. This has been bothering me ever since this Wednesday, and still I have the impression that the tenor soloist (who sings the role of "Obadiah") looks like Zak from Desperate Housewives from where I'm standing. o_O
Tonight's rehearsal was opened to the public, and I was very touched when "Erzaehlerin" (one of my students) came to watch us! Wow, I just messaged her vaguely about it and of course didn't expect anyone I know to turn up, but voila! I only realised she was in the audience when she gave me a call after we (the chorus) were dismissed. Awww, I'm so moved. Many thanks!
Wokay, while I unpatiently wait for tomorrow evening to arrive, here the next project for our chorus. Debussy's Nocturnes in January next year. Only female chorus involved, but the score looked fun. Lots of shiny sparkling high notes, and my vocal cords love them all! Weeee... The only matter to consider is time management: I've to learn to juggle between the Nocturnes and Beethoven's Missa Solemis (next year's April) amidst my toher performances and stuff.
Oh well, Scorpios are always eager for big changes though, right? XD
Cheers!
